AFTERCARE

Please read all aftercare instructions on this page to make sure you can commit to this brow journey, especially for the first 7-10 days. Failure to follow these instructions may result in pigment loss and results cannot be guaranteed.

AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS:

Proper aftercare is a very important aspect of the long term success, effectiveness, health, and overall satisfaction with your new ombré powder brow tattoo. It is very important to follow those instructions in order to achieve the best possible results from your permanent makeup procedure. Included here are general permanent makeup aftercare instructions that will help limit any infection or problems, and assure a healthy and successful healing as quickly as possible.

NOTE: All tattoos carry the inherent risk of infection and/or allergic reaction, so if swelling, pain, bruising persists for more than a few days, it may be a sign of infection, so be sure to contact your doctor right away. If you experience excessive itching, swelling, blistering or any other complications post-procedure, STOP using the aftercare product and contact your technician immediately, you may be allergic to the aftercare product.

BROWS (ombré powder)

  • For the first 24-48 hours: Lymph fluids may surface of the brow, in which case, take a clean/dry tissue and dab gently over the area. The color will also appear darker during this time prior to the peeling phase.

  • For the first 72 hours: Avoid any contact with water and do not apply the aftercare ointment yet.

  • DO NOT TOUCH THE HEALING PIGMENTED AREA WITH YOUR FINGERS. THEY MAY HAVE BACTERIA ON THEM AND CREATE AN INFECTION

  • After 72 hours: Apply a very, very thin coat of the provided AfterInked lotion, A&D ointment, Aquaphor or Bacitracin (if not allergic) 2-3 times/day when needed (i.e. when it feels dry) for the remaining 7-8 days, or until you are done peeling. Discontinue applying intent after peeling has completed.

  • After 72 hours: You may use a gentle cleanser with your finger tips to wash the area, pat the area dry with a clean paper towel or tissue. DO NOT SCRUB OR RUB FORCEFULLY.

  • To clean, always use a clean, dry q-tip to wipe off the existing ointment that are on your brows, dampen another q-tip and with just a little bit of water and gently wipe clean. Pat dry with a clean/dry tissue and reapply the ointment.

  • If slight crust appears on the pigmented surface, this is normal. Do not force removal by picking or scratching! You will remove pigment along with the crusting and create potential for scarring

  • The procedure may have some peeling on or around the third or fourth day. This is a normal part of the healing process on some clients.

  • Keep showers quick and avoid facing the shower head.

  • Sleep on your back to avoid pressure on your brows.

  • Do not apply makeup over healing areas. Remember, the area is a healing would and needs to be free of bacteria.

  • Avoid excessive sweating/exercise, sun, saunas, and swimming (including chlorinated pools or jacuzzis, the ocean, or recreational bodies of water).

  • Avoid facials 6 weeks after your procedure.

  • Avoid gardening and limit contact with animals near your face.

  • No tinting of brows or lashes until brows are fully healed.

  • Do not traumatize the procedure area while it is healing.

  • Use a broad spectrum sunblock after area has healed to slow fading.

  • Do not use products containing AHA’s on or near pigmented areas including glycolic or lactic acids or Retin A products (they will fade the pigment).

  • Do not donate blood for one year after the procedure, per the Red Cross.

  • Follow up appointments should be scheduled between 6-10 weeks after the initial procedure. New procedures are sometimes a two-step process and final results are sometimes not determined until the follow up visit is completed. Do not judge your procedure while it is in the healing process as it may require a follow up.

  • Any operations such as botox, facial laser treatments or chemical peels will affect the pigment from the procedure and the overall appearance. Please notify your physician prior to performing those services.

LIP BLUSH

  • For the first day: avoid touching the lips with fingers. Blot lips gently with clean tissue or cotton as they may leak lymph fluid. Keep them constantly moisturized by dabbing on Vaseline or a neutral lip ointment using a clean Q-tip several times throughout the day. Once you are home, you can use an ice-pack wrapped in paper towel (never use ice directly) against the lips to minimize swelling and tenderness. If it is safe for you to use (see drug facts or your doctor), a single dose of ibuprofen 2-3 hours after the procedure can help minimize swelling and discomfort if needed. Before brushing teeth, apply additional Vaseline/ointment so that it is easy to remove toothpaste residue. Before bed, rinse the lips with cool water, blot dry and reapply a generous amount of Vaseline/ointment

  • For the first 48 hours: avoid spicy or temperature-hot foods as well as colored/staining foods (e.g. coffee, curry etc). Drinking through a straw is recommended. Continue applying Vaseline/ointment to lips repeatedly throughout the day to maintain constant moisture

  • During peeling stage: Continue to liberally moisturize the lips (by dabbing, not rubbing) and DO NOT PICK at flakes of pigment. Dry lips and picking at the flakes can cause blotchiness and interfere with the healed color, as well as introduce the risk of infection

  • Until all flaking is completely over:

    • Do not use makeup on the lips

    • Avoid excess UV exposure

    • Avoid direct water pressure, baths, swimming

    • After the flaking is over:

    • Continue to keep lips moisturized as they will feel dry for a couple weeks - use a neutral lip balm with SPF

    • If you use Retin-A, do not use it close to the treated area for thirty days. It will cause the area to peel and lighten

    • Smoking is discouraged for optimal results

What to expect with lip blush healing (this timeline is a guideline only and will vary for each individual):

  • Day 0 (day of procedure): lip color will appear vibrant and bright as they are expected to heal 40-50% lighter. They may be slightly swollen and feel tender.

  • Days 1-3: lip color will appear even more vivid and start to feel tight and dry. Lips may still be slightly swollen

  • Days 3-10: the superficial layer of skin and pigment will begin to flake off. The lip underneath may not show much pigment at this stage - this is normal

  • Days 10-30: the true lip color will develop by the end of the month, by which time you can decide whether you will need a touch-up
